Ward refurbishment As part of stage 2 of the Murdoch Redevelopment project, the six original 1994 wards located in the hospital’s North Wing are being refurbished. The general finish will mirror the style of the new South Wing wards, with minor alterations to general layouts. We will refurbish one ward at a time, with construction commencing in May 2015. Every step will be taken to avoid noise and vibration during the refurbishment, however as with all construction works some disturbances are possible. The first patient was direct transferred via helicopter from another WA hospital to the FSH Intensive Care Unit in April 2015. While the helipad has been operational since February 2015, this is the first time that a patient was transferred directly from a regional hospital to FSH. The patient was transferred from the South West Health Campus, highlighting the extensive capability of the RAC Rescue Helicopter Retrieval Service in the South West of Western Australia. This is an example of the varied use of the helicopter retrieval service that is available to over 90% of Western Australians. Recently the walls of the childrens ward at the Fiona Stanley Hospital has seen the artwork of award winning student artists from across the southern suburbs of Perth. The artwork was entered into a competition at the end of last year, and winners were chosen by local primary school children at an event hosted at the hospital. The winners art work has now been turned into wall paper and installed in the childrens ward to bring colour and happiness to the young patients at the Fiona Stanley Hospital. The construction of the St John of God Murdoch Wexford Medical Centre is now complete, with most medical suites already sold or leased, ready to support the provision of outstanding health care for the local community. St John of God Murdoch Hospital Chief Executive Officer, John Fogarty, said the Medical Centre will help usher in a new era of health care delivery for Perth’s largest health precinct. “The new centre will have a profound impact on the services our hospital provides,” said Mr Fogarty.“It has 70 consulting suites that will enable our specialists to provide a wide range of medical specialty services, including orthopaedics, cardiology, obstetrics and urology, and almost double the consulting suite space on the Murdoch campus'" Construction on the Medical Centre began in September 2012. The newly completed seven floor medical centre also features radiology, pathology, a cafe and retail space. The Medical Centre is named after Wexford, a port city south of Dublin Ireland, which was the founding place of the Sisters of St John of God.
